Before mounting your new plasma or LCD television on the wall, there are a couple of things you have to consider. The first is positioning. Do you want your TV to be front and center in the room so that it commands attention like a piece of art? Or would you rather have it blend seamlessly into the décor? The next thing to consider is functionality. What do you want your television to be able to do after it is mounted? Do you want to be able to adjust the screen both vertically and horizontally, or would a fixed installation be suitable?
Once you answer these questions, you can begin to look at the various flat screen mounts and wall brackets that can deliver the kind of performance you desire. Although there are a number of different mounting products available, the three most common types of flat screen mounts are full-motion, tilting, and fixed.
Full-motion flat screen mounts. A full-motion or articulating mount gives you nearly full control over the positioning of your television after installation. This type of mount consists of an arm that extends out from the wall brackets to allow for multi-directional tilting and swiveling. If you plan to do your TV viewing in a spacious room with a varied seating arrangement, then you should consider purchasing a full-motion mount.
Tilting flat screen mounts. A tilting mount represents a step down in functionality from a full-motion mount. Instead of utilizing an extendable arm, this type of mount employs a simple pivot joint on the wall brackets to enable limited upward and downward motion. This mounting solution is commonly used in bedrooms and areas where glare from external light sources could interfere with the viewing experience.
Fixed flat screen mounts. A fixed or low-profile mount simply allows you to hang your television against the wall, much as you would a painting. The wall brackets contain no special mechanisms to accommodate movement of any kind, so once the TV is in place, it will have to stay in that position. A fixed mount works best for televisions installed at eye-level in viewing rooms where potential glare is not a concern.
Full Motion Tv Bracket
Deciding on the best mounting option for your new TV requires that you take the above criteria into consideration first. When you know where you will install your TV and how much control you want over screen positioning, you'll be able to sift through all the different flat screen mounts and wall brackets available to find one that will fit your needs.
